China
Relations between the EU and China can be traced back to 1975 and to the Trade and Cooperation Agreement of 1985. China’s recent significant economic growth and its emerging economic and political power, meanwhile, are having a direct impact on the EU’s interest in deepening dialogue with China. China was selected by the EU as a partner country for this project as a result of the EU’s desire, expressed in the 2003 European Security Strategy, to develop a strategic partnership with this country. The EU-China joint declaration on non-proliferation and arms control in December 2004 was a notable milestone in this particular area of the EU-China cooperation.
China has not submitted a request for technical assistance to the UNSCR 1540 Committee.
