South East Asia
There are six partner countries in the South East Asian reagion, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The region being a key hub of international trade – due to its geographic location and its growing exporting economies – obtains high strategic significance in reducing the risk of proliferation. The significance mirrors in the growing number of partner countries in the region and the intensified cooperation.
Malaysia and Thailand became the first project partner countries in South East Asia under the LTP 2008. Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam joined the programme with the start of LTP 2011. Besides the national enhancement of the relevant export control system, with all countries being members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the focus additionally lies in strengthening regional cooperation and in creating space to utilize regional synergizes.
