Indonesia
The EU’s relations with Indonesia began back in the 1970s and were institutionalised in 1980 by the EU – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Agreement, of which Indonesia was a founding member and strongly involved in the EC – ASEAN dialogue. An EC Delegation to Indonesia was established in 1988. In November 2009 a Partnership and cooperation Agreement (PCA) was signed with Indonesia which was the first PCA concluded by the EU with an ASEAN country.
Indonesia has not requested assistance from the UNSCR 1540 committee, but has committed itself to fighting against the proliferation of WMD. It has already shown its willingness to cooperate with other international bodies and promote the non-proliferation of WMD. It also accepted the WMD clause, which is part of the November 2009 PCA.
