The central framework for cooperation between the EU and Malaysia is the EU-ASEAN Cooperation Agreement. Malaysia is an important partner for the EU, especially with respect to trade and investment, leading in 2010 to the start of negotiations on an EU-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement. Since the opening of the European Commission Delegation in Malaysia in 2003, cooperation between these two partners has continued to grow and expand in a variety of other areas touching also on political and social issues.
Malaysia’s national report to the 1540 Committee on the implementation of UNSCR 1540, submitted in 2004, underlines the country’s commitment to non-proliferation and disarmament and its support for cooperative action among States.
